Mold

Mold is not uncommon as it is a by-product of the environment. Mold requires moisture to reproduce. Take every precaution necessary to prevent mold from infiltrating your RV.

Controlling moisture is the key to preventing mold growth. If liquids are spilled or you detect a leak in the RV, take steps to immediately correct the problem and remove all moisture. Place a dry towel under pet water bowls to keep the surrounding floor area dry.

Condensation is a sign of high humidity. Monitor humidity levels indoors using a humidity meter available at most hardware stores. Indoor humidity should fall between 30-50 percent. In rooms where damp air is expected, such as the bathroom, kitchen or while operating the washer/dryer, run the overhead exhaust fan or open a window to promote airflow. Certain long-term storage situations may help to promote mold growth. For best results, park the RV on a paved surface and under cover. If the RV is left outdoors, position the vehicle next to a structure to create a wind block. Plug the RV into shore power and heat the interior to 55 degrees. Cold outdoor temperatures will create condensation inside the motor home during storage. For best results, run a small humidifier inside the vehicle and perform frequent inspections to remove any signs of moisture.

Odor can indicate the existence of mold. If you suspect the existence of mold in the RV, consult a qualified professional to perform an experienced investigation.

Remove mold and mildew from hard surfaces using detergent and water. Rinse well and then thoroughly dry the area. If areas of caulking are showing mold or mildew, completely remove old caulking, thoroughly wash and dry the area before applying new caulk.
